25 August 2023 — the “2023 Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Forum,” organized by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Alliance, was held this afternoon at the Bank of China Tower. Mr. Son Dong, Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr. Wang Weiming, Minister of Education and Technology of the Liaison Office, Mr. Way Kui Wai, Vice President of Bank of China (Hong Kong), and Mr. Charles Mok, Legislative Council member representing the innovation and technology sector, served as the guest of honor. Charles Mok, Chairman and CEO of Xiangda Biotechnology, delivered a keynote speech. Our founder and CEO, Calvin Cheng, also attended and shared his journey of transitioning from a finance professional to a technology entrepreneur. Calvin took this opportunity to encourage young people to respect, listen, and be prepared. By doing so, when opportunities arise, they can naturally succeed in entrepreneurship and solve others’ pain points.
The thematic seminar on “Basic Research and Applied Transformation” was hosted by Dr. Philip Chow, Vice President (Research and Innovation) of Polytechnic University. Six recipients of the “Bank of China Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Awards 2022” were invited as guest speakers. They included Professor Wang Zuan Kai from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Professor Vincent Tam from the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Honorary Associate Professor Chen Tat Ming from the Department of Surgery at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Mr. Liu Hongbin, Executive Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Innovation Centre at the Hong Kong Innovation Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Leung Hin Lai from the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Chair Professor of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Calvin Cheng, Founder and CEO of Wizpresso Technology.

The Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Alliance
The Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Alliance was officially established on July 15, 2022, with the aim of enhancing the connections among research platforms, institutions, organizations, groups, and innovative technology companies in Hong Kong. Its objectives include:
- Promoting interdisciplinary exchanges and innovative collaborations among alliance members, exploring cooperative research and development projects, and contributing to the development of science and technology innovation in Hong Kong.
- Discussing policies related to science and technology innovation development in Hong Kong and providing suggestions for the development of science and technology in the region.
- Collaborating with the Hong Kong government departments, industries, academia, research institutions, etc., to promote science and technology innovation cooperation and development in the Greater Bay Area.
- Enhancing public awareness and interest in science and technology through science and technology education and popularization activities, fostering a vibrant atmosphere of science and technology innovation in Hong Kong.
About the Bank of China Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Awards
The Bank of China Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Awards, also known as the SciTech Awards, is a non-profit award sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) and organized by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Alliance. The awards aim to promote scientific and technological innovation development in Hong Kong and recognize individuals and teams who have achieved outstanding accomplishments in scientific and technological innovation and technology transfer conducted primarily in Hong Kong.
